NO
We’ve said that we use any for the negative sentences. We can also use no. However, it is not used the same way as in many other languages. In many languages you can use two negative words to make a negative sentence. English doesn’t allow this. A sentence like: I don’t have no money is wrong, because we have the word don’t (do not) and the word no: both are negative words. The correct way to use the word no is as follows:
- Is there anything to eat?
- Yes, there is something to eat
- There is somebody at the door
- There isn’t anywhere open at this time of the day
- Sometime today I’ll go to the supermarke
No is also used for questions. But remember, you musn’t use any other negatives.
- Is there nothing you can do?
